چکیده
CRITICALCARENURSE Vol 27, No. 4, AUGUST 2007 49 transfusion-related death in the United States, surpassing deaths caused by ABO incompatibility and bacterial contamination. The actual incidence of TRALI remains unknown in the United States; however, with improved recognition, the number of cases of TRALI reported in the literature has increased significantly since the initial case series was reported in 1985. Nevertheless, much about this clinical syndrome that may complicate blood transfusions remains poorly understood, and TRALI remains an important topic of research in transfusion medicine. In 2006, the AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks) assembled a TRALI task force to develop recommendations for the prevention of TRALI. This article is a summary of AABB actions on TRALI and includes a summary of the recommendations made by the AABB task force.

Transfusion-related acute lung injury is a rare form of acute respiratory distress syndrome of possible immune etiology that develops immediately after a blood product transfusion. Clinicians need to be aware of this condition as prompt recognition and supportive management can prevent unwanted morbidity and mortality.
متن کاملTransfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI) and Strategies for Prevention
Background: Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI) is a serious complication of blood transfusion. In recent years, TRALI has been reliably shown to be the most common cause of transfusion-related fatalities in the United States and in the United Kingdom. Its prevalence is about 1 in 1323 transfused components; however, it is often under diagnosed. Classically, TRALI present as noncardio...
متن کاملTransfusion-related acute lung injury; clinical perspectives
Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) was introduced in 1983 to describe a clinical syndrome seen within 6 h of a plasma-containing blood products transfusion. TRALI is a rare transfusion complication; however, the FDA has suggested that TRALI is the leading cause of transfusion-related mortality. Understanding the pathogenesis of TRALI will facilitate adopting preventive strategies, su...

Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) is a serious and potentially fatal complication of transfusion of blood and blood components. TRALI is under-diagnosed and under-reported because of a lack of awareness. A number of models have been proposed to explain the pathogenesis of TRALI: an antibody mediated model; a two-event biologically active mediator model; and a combined model. TRALI c...
